end of life services

Many people offer end-of-life services, but where do you go when you want support with making your day-to-day life in the present moment and the years you have left more

joyful, fulfilling, comfortable and peaceful?

My support blends the practical aspects like navigating the complex hospital system and your diagnosis, as well as providing non-biased emotional support to lean on and inspiration and a beacon of hope to show you that you can experience joy even in the most challenging time of your life.

Anyone who has been dealing with the medical system for a while knows that feeling heard is not commonplace.

  • flowerIf you've had most people's experience, you probably feel like you're always being told what to do and what to think.
  • flowerYour treatment often no longer feels like your choice.
  • flowerYou start to feel powerless.
  • flowerIf you want more information, it often feels like there isn't enough time to discuss it and you're rushed out the door.
  • flowerIf you're unsure of the direction your care is taking, you feel too overpowered to speak up or afraid of the consequences of going against an expert's advice.

My role is to allow you to FINALLY be seen, heard and understood.

You’ll let out a huge sigh of relief knowing that someone finally hears you. That what you want is finally being acknowledged and factored into the equation. And you’ll be surprised at the creative methods we can try to meet your deepest wishes so that the years you have left are meaningful.

So what are your deepest wishes?

something small
For you, it might be something small like making it to the dinner table at night to eat with your family without falling asleep.
or
something big
It could be something big like making it to June because that’s when your wife delivers her baby.
Whatever you’re yearning for, I am here to listen, understand you and help you find solutions.

When to get in touch

Ideally, I like to see clients when they first get diagnosed. I’m extremely passionate about early intervention. However, no matter where you are at in your journey, I’m happy to assist.

We have statistics to show that the earlier you get into palliative care, the longer you live and the better quality of life you have; the same thing goes for hospice. When you enter hospice, that means there’s no more treatment left, but people have improved quality of life and live longer. This is why this work is so important.

a holistic approach

Supporting you with a holistic approach

There are lots of physical and practical elements to cover, but what a terminally ill person goes through is usually 50% physical and 50% mental and emotional. It could swing either way, just depending on the day.

You might be more affected mentally and emotionally if you have a lot of fear and anxiety, and that is something we can address early on so that it doesn’t suck the energy out of you.

If you’re receiving early intervention, a big thing I like to prepare my clients for is that your appetite is going to decrease. When you find this out months ahead of time, you can put a plan in place. You might even start gaining weight before you go to chemo so you have some reserve.

understanding your prognosis

Understanding Your Prognosis

Do you know your prognosis? Do you want to know your prognosis?

Almost all my clients say they would like to know it, and no one has it.

What do you really want to know? Do you want details? Or do you want a broad picture? Or do you want no bad news?

I’ll get the full picture of what you want to know and then make sure you get answers.

your treatment options

Your Treatment Options

Every treatment option has its side effects and risks versus benefits. Your doctor will most likely push you to take the most aggressive approach, but it is important to weigh up your options.

Is it more important to you to fight this with everything possible or to have a better quality of life with the time you have left and for your family not to remember you with all the side effects of the treatment? I can help talk you through all your options and weigh up the pros and cons.

meeting your day to day goals

Meeting Your Day-To-Day Goals

We’ll map out what your day-to-day goals look like and how we can creatively achieve them. For example, you might want to take your pain medication to feel better but it makes you too sleepy to be present for the day-to-day activities with your family you can’t bear to miss.

We’ll explore questions like:
• Are you able to carry out your day-to-day activities comfortably?
• Are you in pain?
• Are you able to sleep?
• How is your mood?

planning your end of life goals

Planning Your End of Life Goals

Everyone’s end of life goals will look a bit different. From who you want holding your hand, to whether you want music playing, your dog in your bed or the whether you don’t want your family to have the memory of your death in the house and you want to be transferred to a hospice center.

I can create a legal state document with your advanced directives so your choices are crystal clear.

infusing more joy & fun into your days

Infusing More Joy & Fun Into Your Days

I had one client whom we created a Hawaiian vacation for her because she had always wanted to go to Hawaii but she could no longer travel. We had sand brought in and beach chairs, and her kids brought tiki torches.

Another client in his late 60s did a huge dance party because he used to be a dancer.
How much fun do you want to have? Let’s explore that and leave a lasting positive memory for the ones you love.

creating your legacy work

Creating Your Legacy Work

Legacy work is all about defining how you want to be remembered. I love brainstorming creative ideas to approach your legacy work.

Some clients write letters which I call Legacy Letters. We can do these right then and there in our session so we get it done and then you can feel some sort of completion. I encourage my clients to do these letters for all the important people in their lives like their spouse and children.
